SMS
SMS is how Oncall reaches people first. It is built in, so there is nothing to set up.
How it works
Every page goes by SMS to the phone number saved for the person being paged. Pages go out through Oncall’s built-in SMS providers (Hubtel and Africa’s Talking).
The message is written to fit in one SMS, and it carries a link you can tap to acknowledge.
Limits
Pages are rate-limited, so a storm of alerts does not flood one phone with messages.
Keep numbers current
Oncall can only page a number it has. Each person keeps theirs up to date on Profile, and a manager or admin can also update it on People. Use the full number with the country code, for example +233 20 000 0000.
